Check use-by dates on natural beauty products

People should make sure that they keep an eye on how long they have had their natural beauty products for, as keeping them too long can cause a build-up of bacteria.

Dr Susan Blakeney, optometric adviser from the College of Optometrists, told the Daily Mail that mascara is one natural beauty product which people should look out for, as it can harbour infections.

'To help avoid nasty eye infections, follow manufacturers' guidelines, which usually suggest that once opened you throw away mascara after three to six months,' she added.

As for eyeshadows, the expert suggested that powder items should be binned after two years, while cream products have a lifespan of 12 to 18 months. Another top tip from the expert is not to share makeup, as this can lead to more bacteria build-up.

The WomenRepublic advice website added that exposing the natural beauty products to light and air can reduce their lifespan dramatically, although it said that good-quality products will last longer than cheaper items.ADNFCR-2885-ID-19557949-ADNFCR
