The expert said that picking the right shade is the first hurdle, urging people to select natural skincare items which will not go too dark.
Fake tanning expert Nichola Joss told the newspaper that preparation is the key to getting a smooth, seamless look. She also urged first-timers to use a daily or gradual tanner, to build it up gently.
The newspaper added: 'Experts advise starting with your face, then moving down the body, remembering which bits you have done as you go.'
