Smoky eyes updated with latest make-up shades

Hilary Mantel, writing for the Guardian, said that navys and purples are fashionable colours at the moment which women can incorporate into the natural makeup regime for a great sultry look.

Purple is an 'amazingly kindly shade, and makes common old blue eyes take on a fascinating hint of green', she said.

Pink is another shade that has been touted as a must-have for spring, although Ms Mantel recommended that women use plenty of black liner with the candy colour to avoid looking like a 'rabbit'.

Women who prefer to go for natural makeup but still want to inject some glamour into their look can go for colours with a metallic glint, such as 'creamy beiges shot through with gold' or 'khaki with a sparkle', Ms Mantel said.

If pared-down, natural makeup is your preference, you'll need to invest in a kohl liner to create the defined eyes which have been a key feature on catwalks, according to Vogue magazine's Jessica Hogan.
