Women 'spend nearly £9,000 on natural makeup in lifetime'

Ladies spend nearly £9,000 in a lifetime on makeup, including natural cosmetics, according to new research.

A survey by Superdrug found that women aged 16 and over shop for new makeup, such as mascara, foundation and lipstick, at least five times a year. They spend a minimum of £26.24 on each occasion.

This represents £131.20 every 12 months, or £8,528 in a female adult lifetime of 65 years.

However, a recent survey by Debenhams found that most women only buy new natural cosmetics and skin care when they run out, rather than when they pass their use-by date.

Ladies also spend a considerable amount of time applying their natural makeup - nearly 20 minutes a day, which translates to 330 days throughout their life, according to Superdrug.

The poll of 3,000 women also found that 68 per cent felt more confident in their natural makeup.

According to the research, mascara is the top makeup must-have, with foundation and lip balm coming in second and third respectively.
