The latest trend to establish itself on the catwalk and indeed in Hollywood is 'carefree curls', a look which can easily be achieved using natural hair styling products and a little know-how.

Orlando Pita, who created the hairstyles for Derek Lam's spring 2010 collection, which he said was inspired by 'summer vacations', explained to Elle how she got the hair just right for catwalk glamour.

'I wanted to create the wave and glamour of Kathleen Turner's hairstyle in Body Heat, only more destroyed. It's as if she had been on a roller coaster at an amusement park - the curl is very deconstructed,' she explained.

To create the curly updo for the models, who strutted down the catwalk in polka dots, nudes and turquoise, she recommended using a curling iron.

However, in a break from the norm, she used hair spray after using the iron as opposed to spray the hair before, finally pinning the curls on to the top of the head loosely allowing some strands to fall loose.ADNFCR-2885-ID-19797771-ADNFCR
