Toning 'a vital part of natural skin care regime'

Toning is a vital part of a natural skin care regime as it helps to prevent breakouts, according to an expert.

Joni Cuff, esthetic lead at the Riverside Spa in Calgary, told Canwest News Service that exfoliating and moisturising is important for preparing skin for summer, but toning must also not be forgotten.

She said that many people just apply moisturiser after cleansing the face, but this is not a good idea.

'Let's say you use a warm cloth to clean your skin. Your pores are open, so you don't want to directly put cream on and clog up your pores. Toning closes up the pores and helps prevent breakouts,' she explained to the news provider.

Moisturising is also an important part of your natural skin care regime for summer, as it replaces the hydration that the complexion loses on a hot, sunny day. Allowing the skin to dry out can cause fine lines and wrinkles, Ms Cuff said.

Using a rich, non-perfumed moisturiser is particularly important for people with skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis in the summer, Dr Miriam Stoppard recently wrote in her column for the Mirror.
