Use sunscreen as natural body care

Use sunscreen as natural body care

Women who are considering topping up their tan this summer should not substitute sunscreen for a make-up moisturiser which claims to have SPF, according to an expert.

Bevis Man from the British Skin Foundation urged women and men to see sunscreen as another form of natural skin care, as once you have been burned this damage cannot be reversed.

Around 2,500 people died from skin cancer in 2008 according to Cancer Research UK and this is why Mr Man says prevention is better than a cure and the best way of doing this is by wearing sun cream.

When asked for his thoughts on moisturisers with SPF, he said: 'Well if they're on the shelf and that's what they say, then sure, but what I would point out is that I wouldn't necessarily use them as a substitute for sunscreen.'

In his basic rules on avoiding sun burn, he said SPF 30 should be used as a minimum and to spend time in the shade between 11:00 and 15:00 BST when the sun is at its hottest.ADNFCR-2885-ID-19795269-ADNFCR
