Sunbeds 'damaging to more than just natural skincare'

Posted by Felicia Cardinal

Ladies considering getting a pre-bronzed body at the tanning salon before they head out on holiday this summer have been warned that sunbeds can cause more than just natural skincare damage.

Bevis Man, spokesperson for the British Skin Foundation, has advised natural skincare fans to cover up when out in the sun to avoid the health risks associated with too much sun exposure, but added that their eyes may also suffer too.

His comments follow a recent warning from the College of Optometrists about the effect of sunbeds on the eyes such as growths or affected sight in later life.

'If people are that worried about getting a tan, there are safer alternatives [to sunbeds], like spray tanning and self tanning creams that can do the same job but without the health risks associated with sunbed use,' Mr Man said.

He added that natural skincare fans can do their bit for their eyes by simply ensuring they wearing a pair of sunglasses that protect the eyes from the harmful effects of UV rays. ADNFCR-2885-ID-800029568-ADNFCR
